Artificial intelligence (AI) has made substantial gains in the digital marketing industry over the last couple of years, with AI-powered content generation playing a significant role. There are debates about whether or not AI Marketing Tools are good enough yet, as well as an argument for the human touch.

At its most basic level, AI is defined as a machine that can exhibit human-like reasoning and perception abilities. Humans have excelled at developing machines and technology that assist us, enabling us to accomplish tasks faster and better than before. We know there are clear benefits but what’s stopping everyone from embracing this technology?

What AI tools can we use right now?

A marketing team is made up of a collection of specialised talents. Graphic design, video production, article writing, and social media management are just a few examples of this. For smaller companies, this might be handled by a single person, with certain responsibilities subcontracted to freelancers.

At the time of writing this article, we are yet to find AI tools for graphic design or videography. However, there are tools and mobile apps that can transform modest abilities into high-quality media production.

Right now, there are two areas that you should be looking into.

[*] Content Creation & Curation. AI Content writers can produce text that is grammatically correct and has an almost indistinguishable style from humans due to what’s known as transfer learning or multi-modal learning.

Content Creation AI tools

Some tools available now are very good. They can take a few bits of text and produce an article in very little time. So long as you guide the AI, you can get something really good out of it. However, they are not good enough to pass as human copywriters yet.

The AI tools available use what is known as transfer learning or multi-modal learning which means that the machine learns by example from existing material (e.g.: Wikipedia articles). The more content it reads and understands, the better it gets at producing original pieces of writing about similar topics in a way that passes off as human work.

The only way to really find out if AI content tools could help you is to test them, but make sure you first understand how to use them. They are only as effective as the information you give them and must be steered in the direction you want them to go. If you provide them with too little information, they will fail miserably. Start by creating a content template, with a synopsis, headings, and 2-3 keywords. If you’re not sure what to do, read their guides or watch youtube videos on how to get the best result.

Social Media AI tools

You probably already use or have heard of tools like HootSuite, which help schedule posts, monitor and report on engagement levels. AI Social Media tools take this one step further, they compose the post itself.

How do they work? They search the content on your website and find relevant blog posts, articles or resources. After reading all of them, they compile a list of posts that exactly match your business.

The tools we have tested generate hundreds of suggested posts, add the images, add hashtags and all-important links. All you need to do is choose which ones you like, edit them and then schedule them to start posting. It’s really fast, and if your content is good, very little editing is required. As well as entire websites, you can choose to focus on single blogs.

There’s also no real evidence to suggest whether machine-generated posts drive engagement any better than their human counterparts. But they do automate the process and take very little time to quickly get you more exposure.

Our Thoughts on AI marketing tools

AI marketing tools are most likely to succeed when they enhance existing skills, rather than replace them altogether. By improving the speed and quality of content production AI tools can free up the time of marketing professionals to focus on more high-value activities.

Yes, but like most software solutions, there is a lot of competition, varying prices and levels of functionality. Many offer a free trial, which is an excellent opportunity to test them before committing to a subscription. We’ve identified a handful of excellent tools, as well as several that fall considerably short of expectations.

We are in no doubt that the future of marketing will involve the use of AI tools, therefore it is essential for marketers to learn about this new technology so they can deploy them effectively.
